Four two-car, class 108, Derby low density short underframe diesel multiple units running in to Purley Oaks station on 7th July 1963. This was probably an excursion to Brighton originating from the London Midland region. DMUs were used for this sort of purpose at weekends as for those north of London Brighton was probably sufficiently exotic a destination to fill up four two-car units. The driver would have been from the LMR with a SR driver also in the cab for route knowledge over the SR metals. Text from Tony Comber/Steve McNally |
