Of all the "Big Four" railway companies and British Railway's regions serving the centre of London the Southern overwhelmingly had the most terminal stations. This was due to the four pre-grouping competing railway companys' desire to serve both the City and West End areas of the capital with their own prestigious stations. This resulted in eight termini being built - seven of which are still in use today. The maze of tracks in south London threading their way to serve this multiplicity of destinations results in a most complex network. Below is a brief summary of the Southern's London termini: |
