| The footbridge at the London end of the station that gives
access to the race course. On the far side can be seen the now abandoned second
section of up platform. The bridge continues to the right over empty space
where once there were the railway lines leading to the bay platform and
sidings.

A 4 Vep hurries across
the level crossing with the 2:00 p.m. Eastbourne - Victoria service, not

| As soon as the train is clear of the level crossing the
Crossing Keeper winds the wheel to open the gates for the one waiting car.
This is a practice that is due to end in February 2014 when the crossing is scheduled to be replaced by full barriers controlled by CCTV from Three Bridges. photograph by Peter Richards |
