The sign that says it all! When it was manned, the station staff had a good view of the adjacent racecourse from the station.

Plumpton The page from the STN of Tuesday, 20th October 1970 dealing with the provisions for trains for the Plumpton Steeplechases of that day. As can be seen, there were twelve trains due to make additional stops at Plumpton for this meeting.

The footbridge at the London end of the station that gives access to the race course. On the far side can be seen the now abandoned second section of up platform. The bridge continues to the right over empty space where once there were the railway lines leading to the bay platform and sidings.

As soon as the train is clear of the level crossing the Crossing Keeper winds the wheel to open the gates for the one waiting car.

This is a practice that is due to end in February 2014 when the crossing is scheduled to be replaced by full barriers controlled by CCTV from Three Bridges.
