The station (later halt) at St Lawrence was situated on a narrow site with a combined two storey Stationmaster's House and booking office, staff and waiting rooms. The Stationmaster's accomodation was on the top floor which, on the road side, was at ground level. There was no Signalbox but a five lever ground frame on the platform controlled the signals and a run-round loop situated beyond the overbridge. whuich were all removed in 1900 when the line was extended to Ventnor The single 237' long platform with the Stationmaster' House/booking office/waiting room building squeezed between the platform and the road. photograph by Ron Hersey The station viewed from the opposite direction. photograph by Ron Hersey The station building viewed from the road overbridge. photograph by Ron Hersey St Lawrence boasted this rather fine station name board. There is no indication here of the station's downgraded status as a Halt. photograph by Ron Hersey Viewed from the road the rear of the name board is about the only prominent piece of railway infrastructure beyond the building. photograph by Ron Hersey The notice advising any would-be travellers of the line's demise on 15th September 1952. photograph by Ron Hersey This page was created 26 June 2021 |
