SE&CR Steam Locomotive Head Boards and Lights
| The headcodes detailed on this page are those used by the South Eastern & Chatham
Railway from 12th February 1917. Special trains (except bewteen London and the Bricklayer's Arms Branch,
London and Hither Green Sidings and Holborn and Cannon Street) were denoted by an unlit lamp in the middle of the
buffer beam. The night codes used a white lamp to correspond to the white disc and a green lamp to correspond to
the black cross with the special lamp lit showing a white aspect. Each engine was supplied with two boards only of
corresponding pattern.one side showing the plain white disc and the other side the black cross on a white
background.
